Co-facilitate English Club for Teacher Trainees

Job Description
The pedagogical college was founded in 1873 and is one of the oldest educational institutions of Ukraine specializing in pre-service teacher preparation. The college has many departments including those specializing in primary education, labor training and technologies, culture, and English. Students study English for four years: general English is taught for four years, and English for specific purposes is taught for two years. First and second year students have comprehensive English preparation for general academic success, and third- and fourth-year students have in-depth English Language preparation to prepare to become English teachers at primary schools.

The pedagogical college is seeking the support of one Virtual Service Pilot Participant (VSPP) to support teacher trainees with their English acquisition through a weekly English club. The weekly English club meetings will expose teacher trainees to a native English speaker and will include lessons about U.S. culture to expand students' understanding of sports, youth life, cuisine, health care, mass media, social networking, art, culture, and education.

The organization has previously collaborated with the Peace Corps. They understand that the role of a VSPP is very different than a Peace Corps Volunteer or Peace Corps Response Volunteer.

Desired Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in education, secondary education, related field and/or relevant certification: TEFL, TESOL, Cambridge, or similar

Experience:

• Virtual engagement and communication

• 2 years of EFL/ English teaching to adults for specific purposes

Required Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in any field

Experience: 1 year of TEFL/TESOL teaching experience in the U.S.A. or abroad

Intercultural skills and motivation: Flexible, strong cross-cultural agility, high tolerance for ambiguity, able to work independently, resourceful, creative, and genuinely motivated and capable to serve virtually

Their goals include training effective educators who are equipped with essential teaching skills and knowledge; promoting inclusivity through emphasizing inclusive practices for diverse student needs; fostering continuous English education to address student needs to understand the global world and gain efficient communication skills; developing international relations on the basis of mutual respect and understanding, celebrating diversity, openness and cultural awareness; supporting community engagement by strengthening partnerships between local schools and communities.

Virtual Service Engagement and Tasks
The VSPP will engage in the following tasks, in collaboration with their Host Country Partners:

• Co-assess English skill level of teacher trainees

• Co-design session plans for English club meetings with clear policy, procedures, resources, and outcomes

• Co-develop learning resources to facilitate exposure to U.S. culture (sport, youth life, cuisine, healthcare, mass media, social network sites, art and culture, education, etc.)

• Co-teach one 75-minute English-Speaking Club session per week for a group of 15-20 students years old) after 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time (Eastern Standard Time +8 hours)

• Co-analyze the results of conducted sessions and identify learning objectives and appropriate communicative activities

VSPPs are expected to engage on the tasks listed above for an estimated 5-15 hours per week. This engagement is estimated to be 5 hours per week.

Online collaboration will generally occur between 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Ukraine time. Specific times will be determined during orientation.

The Host Country Counterpart will have access to Zoom, WhatsApp, and Teams for regular communication and collaboration.

Per the Child Protection Code of Conduct, when engaging online with minors (0-18), two adults must be present.
