Organisation Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations, and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1600 NGOs operating in 19 of the world's most insecure countries.

INSO is registered in the Netherlands and has its headquarters in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

INSO Ukraine

INSO Ukraine opened in 2015. Since the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, it has rapidly expanded to a complete platform serving the needs of NGOs in a fast-evolving conflict. Currently, more than 240 national and international NGOs receive INSO services, in both Ukrainian and English, including information, analysis and advice through a wide range of written products, meetings and briefings, tailored assessments, crisis support, and a broad range of training courses. Our country office is in Kyiv, supported by field offices in Dnipro and Odesa.

As part of INSO Ukraine, you will play a key role in supporting NGOs and helping aid reach people in need more safely. At the same time, you will be part of a vibrant humanitarian community that brings together experiences from across the globe.

Job Summary

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

GIS Activities

• Support producing simple maps and visualisations in QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or Adobe Illustrator
• Validate, normalize, and prepare the spatial data
• Regularly update the set of reference maps

Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC)

• Be a user of CHDC and understand the methodology with knowledge of the platform
• Aggregate information to answer questions and provide data solutions

INSO Partners Portal (IPP)

• Be a user of the IPP and understand the registration process
• Guide the partners through the registration process and provide solutions to questions about the system
• Monitor and update the registration of INSO partners through the IPP

Visualization activities

• Fill information needs and sources in collaboration with the Safety Advisors, Operations team, and IM team
• Aggregate data for analysis and presentation
• When needed, produce high-quality maps, graphs, and other products to support INSO's analysis and facilitate NGOs' understanding of the conflict
• Provide visually relevant inputs to field missions, intended to gather data for INSO outputs

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

• Fluency in English and Ukrainian languages, both written and verbal
• At least a year of experience in data management and visualization, in a similar humanitarian organization and context
• Experience with Power BI and DAX, or similar BI software (such as Tableau)
• Basic skills in QGIS and ArcGIS
• Intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft Office tools
• Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to the management of information in crisis contexts

Nice to Have:

• University degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, GIS, or relevant field
• Knowledge of database management using SQL
• Working experience with humanitarian organizations, particularly with NGOs

Terms & Conditions

Official Employment Contract with a 3-month probationary period with an expected starting date of August 2025, UAH 52,000 Gross salary.
