Psychologist

MdM is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. In Ukraine, MdM Spain implements the project activities in close cooperation with the relevant authorities, public health facilities and communities.

MdM has been operating in Ukraine since August 2015 and is currently implementing an emergency response and recovery program in different regions in Ukraine. The program is implemented around two main components: direct provision of services through multidisciplinary mobile units (including primary healthcare services (PHC), sexual and reproductive health (SRH), Mental Health and Psychosocial support services (MHPSS)); and strengthening of local health system (with a specific focus on PHC, SRH, MHPSS and GBV) through capacity building of health and non-health staff, awareness raising and the provision of medical equipment, consumables and medicines.

General objective of the position:

Under direct supervision from Project Manager and technical supervision from MHPSS Coordinator and MHPSS Supervisor), the Psychologist is responsible for:

• Providing quality MHPSS care for beneficiaries who attend medical facilities and/or staying at collective shelters, including MHPSS support to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence and cases referred by health staff and other local structures
• Delivering on-the-job training to health staff at facilities on MHPSS topics, including MHPSS aspects of care for sexual and gender-based violence in accordance with MdM's MHPSS guidelines and standards
• Conducting sessions in communities that raise awareness and increase knowledge on MHPSS and GBV MdM's MHPSS guidelines and standards
• Participate in and support other MdM MHPSS team activities per request

Specific Objectives of the position:

Provision of quality MHPSS care

• To provide quality MHPSS care for beneficiaries, including
  1. Providing individual and group sessions to beneficiaries as needed
  2. Coordinating and following up with beneficiaries identified by health staff and other local structures as requiring psychological support
  3. Making referrals according to the national and MdM guidelines to support other needs of beneficiaries
  4. Provide psychological support and follow up to victims of sexual and gender-based and violence

Training and Awareness Raising

• To support MHPSS training needs of health workers (nurses, feldshers, doctors) in health facilities (s)he works at (e.g. on the job training on topics such as psychological first aid, early identification of mental health symptoms, psychosocial aspects of GBV etc), including
  1. Assessing needs for the training in health facilities where MdM is operating
  2. Developing/adapting and delivering MHPSS training modules in accordance to assessed needs and level of theoretical and practical knowledge of health workers
• To organize and conduct awareness sessions for communities on GBV and MHPSS issues, including
  1. Assessing needs for awareness development in communities and developing strategies of how to reach particular vulnerable groups
  2. Delivering MHPSS awareness raising sessions in accordance to assessed needs and level of knowledge of community MdM's MHPSS guidelines and standards.

Medical information and reports

1. Compile and submit MHPSS Activity data daily in accordance with established M&E toolkit
2. Provide inputs and feedback to the Project Manager and help ensure improvement in the provision of services in accordance MdM standards.

Other

• Helping facilitate coordination and partnership with the health and social workers
• Collaborating and participating in field survey and data collection as needed
• Collaborating as needed with the other partner organizations for a more harmonious and well-coordinated implementation on the field level.
• To abide by norms, principles, code of conduct and safety protocols established for the country and MdM mission
• To be flexible in performing her/his duties to ensure that beneficiaries receive quality services
• To maintain good socio-professional relationships with national and international partners
• To attend/participate in planning of the content of team meetings and to give qualitative input in order to improve services
• To perform other additional duties on request of the Project Manager, MHPSS Coordinator

Position and profile requirements:

Educational background

Degree in psychology, or other relevant to MHPSS certified field

Professional experience

At least 2 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health, preferably directly providing mental health services through local health structures.

Competence and work experience in the field of providing psychological first aid and support to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

Technical experience

Competency in Microsoft Office Environment
