Das Projekt
Syria Media Literacy Lab
zielt darauf ab, teilnehmenden Medienschaffenden journalistische Kompetenzen und Fähigkeiten zu vermitteln, um eine Basis für eine insgesamt verbesserte Qualität der Berichterstattung in Syrien zu schaffen. Hierfür werden Fortbildungen umgesetzt sowie eine vorbereitende Forschungsarbeit zur lokalen Medienlandschaft und zum Umlauf von Desinformation in Syrien erstellt, die zur Erreichung der Projektziele und Indikatoren beitragen.

• Ziel der Stelle

Der Expert/Researcher/Trainer ist in Abstimmung mit dem Head of Research an der Durchführung der vorbereitenden Forschungsarbeit zur Medienlandschaft und zum Stand der Desinformation in Syrien beteiligt.

• Verantwortlichkeiten und Aufgaben
• Durchführung von Teilen der projektbezogenen Forschungsarbeit in Abstimmung mit dem Head of Research, Datenerhebung, Datenanalyse und Fertigstellung des Forschungsberichts und des Policy Briefs
• Verbreitung und Präsentation der Studie auf wissenschaftlichen Konferenzen
• Zusammenarbeit und Berichtslinien
• Der Expert/Researcher/Trainer berichtet direkt an den Head of Research und die Trägerorganisation.
• Anforderungen an den Expert/Researcher/Trainer
• Hochschulabschluss in einem relevanten Forschungsbereich und wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen. Promotion von Vorteil.
• Wissenschaftliche und praktische Erfahrung in den Bereichen Lehre, Medien, Desinformation und Extremismus
• Praktische Erfahrung im Journalismus wünschenswert
• Erfahrung im Umgang mit digitalen Tools und kollaborativen Plattformen
• Fließende Englisch- und Arabischkenntnisse, Französischkenntnisse sind ein Plus.
• Vertragsrahmen
• Umfang der Beschäftigung: 30 Tage über einen Projektzeitraum von 6 Monaten auf freiberuflicher Basis
• Standort: remote, mit Dienstreisen nach Syrien und eventuell Jordanien
• Vertragsdauer: entsprechend der Laufzeit des Syria Media Literacy Lab-Projekts, 6 Monate
• Starttermin: September 2025

Expert/Researcher/Trainer – Syria Media Literacy Lab

• Background

The Syria Media Literacy Lab project aims to provide participating media professionals with journalistic skills and competencies in order to lay the foundations for an overall improvement in the quality of reporting in Syria. To this end, training courses are being implemented and preparatory research is being conducted on the local media landscape and the circulation of disinformation in Syria, which will contribute to the achievement of the project's objectives and indicators.

• Purpose of the position

The expert/researcher/trainer will be involved in conducting preparatory research on the media landscape and the state of disinformation in Syria, in consultation with the Head of Research.

• Responsibilities and tasks
• Carrying out parts of project-related research work in coordination with the Head of Research, data collection, data analysis and completion of the research report and policy brief
• Dissemination and presentation of the study at scientific conferences
• Cooperation and reporting lines
• The expert/researcher/trainer reports directly to the Head of Research and the sponsoring organization.
• Requirements for the expert/researcher/trainer
• University degree in a relevant field of research and academic publications. Doctorate an advantage.
• Academic and practical experience in the fields of teaching, media, disinformation and extremism
• Practical experience in journalism desirable
• Experience working with digital tools and collaborative platforms
• Business fluent in English and Arabic, French an advantage.
• Contractual framework
• Scope of employment: 30 days over a 6-month project period on a freelance basis
• Location: remote, with business trips to Syria and maybe Jordan
• Contract duration: corresponding to the duration of the Syria Media Literacy Lab project, 6 months
• Start date: September 2025
