Spendbase is a global fintech company with a startup mindset, helping businesses optimize their spending on SaaS, cloud services, and corporate cards.

We're seeking a sharp Legal Counsel / DPO to join our legal & compliance team, drive privacy and data protection initiatives, and provide practical legal support across global operations — from commercial contracts to regulatory and product matters.

What we're looking for:
  • 3–6 years of legal experience, including at least 2 years in-house at a tech or fintech company
  • CIPP/E certification
  • Solid experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating B2B commercial agreements (SaaS, DPAs, partnership, vendor, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, UK DPA, etc.) and international data transfer mechanisms (SCCs, TIAs)
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 27001 and/or 27701 standards and certification processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Comfortable working under pressure and managing competing deadlines in a lean legal team
What you'll do:
  • Serve as the designated DPO and oversee all aspects of privacy and data protection across the company
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements (SaaS, NDAs, MSAs, DPAs, procurement, etc.)
  • Provide legal support for the company's operations in several jurisdictions
  • Advise cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, HR, Marketing, Customer Success) on privacy-by-design and legal risk
  • Support Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policies, and global website compliance
  • Support product development by embedding privacy-by-design and conducting compliance reviews across features, APIs, integrations, and new tools (including AI/ML features)
Nice to have:
  • Prior experience working in a fintech company or with financial data, payment flows, or financial regulatory regimes
  • Exposure to U.S. state-level privacy laws
  • Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27018, or other security frameworks
