Senior/Lead Java Backend Engineer

• Architect and implement backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and GCP infrastructure, with a focus on global scale, fault tolerance and low-latency performance;
• Lead development of asynchronous, event-driven systems using message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or GCP Pub/Sub) for high-load processing, game-event pipelines and telemetry;
• Design and optimise data access and caching strategies using Redis and Cassandra, ensuring consistency, availability and partition-tolerance for live service components;
• Ensure seamless integration with the studio's core platform services (authentication, profiles, telemetry, cross-title social systems, matchmaking);
• Define and enforce engineering best practices (code review, architecture review, performance benchmarks, incident response, monitoring/observability);

• Mentor and guide mid-level engineers, collaborate with platform, infrastructure and gameplay teams to shape the full stack from backend logic to deployment and live operations.

• 6+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot;

• Proven experience designing and operating high-load, high-availability distributed systems in a live-service environment;
• Deep understanding of message brokers, event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing at scale;
• Hands-on experience with Redis, Cassandra (or equivalent), and cloud deployment (GCP preferred, but AWS/Azure experience acceptable);
• Excellent debugging, performance tuning and system-design skills;
• Strong leadership, communication and cross-functional collaboration capabilities;
• English level B2 , and ability to work with remote teams.

Will be a plus:

• Prior experience in multiplayer game backend development (matchmaking, live events, player economies, leaderboards);
• Knowledge of Kubernetes/Docker, service mesh, Terraform or similar infrastructure automation tools;
• Familiarity with real-time networking, synchronization, state replication, and global matchmaking architecture.
