The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. Forensic Expert
to join our team in
Dnipro
.

The Forensic Expert supports the ICRC in implementing forensic programs and activities within the Dnipro sub-delegation area of responsibility (AoR). Under the supervision of the designated manager, the Forensic Expert contributes to the development of programs, projects, policies, and proposals, ensuring that forensic activities are effectively integrated into the ICRC's protection work in the delegation.

The Forensic Expert may also represent the ICRC to local or regional stakeholders, as well as in relevant forums, as needed, contributing to external coordination and collaboration in line with their responsibilities

Your MAIN Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintain an overview of the forensic context in Ukraine, with a particular focus on the Dnipro area of responsibility (AoR), including institutions involved in managing the deceased, searching for missing persons, and conducting identification processes
  • Contribute to defining the forensic strategy of the delegation, including setting objectives, planning actions, establishing timelines, and identifying required resources (including budget)
  • Promote and ensure the implementation of relevant forensic standards, particularly those related to the management and identification of the deceased
  • Strengthen the capacities of forensic practitioners and other relevant stakeholders by organizing and delivering trainings, workshops, and dissemination sessions on forensic humanitarian action and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), targeting armed forces, families of missing persons, and other partners
  • Conduct and participate in field visits across all locations within the Dnipro AoR
  • Disseminate ICRC communication materials on forensic science and forensic humanitarian action
  • Represent the ICRC to local authorities and other stakeholders on all matters related to forensic activities within the AoR
  • Support assistance and donation activities aimed at improving working conditions and the quality of forensic procedures and services
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Forensic Program Assistant in Dnipro

About you

To be successful as Forensic Expert in the Protection Work Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:

  • Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
  • Master's degree in Forensic Sciences, Forensic Medicine, or a related biological science relevant to forensic practice
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in forensic practice, medicolegal investigations, witness interviews (human rights), or the interpretation of complex, multifactorial forensic case reports (including law enforcement contexts)
  • Proven experience in writing detailed and complex reports
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams, preferably in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments
  • Experience in conducting research and presenting findings in a clear and professional manner
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering trainings or workshops
  • Fluent in English and Ukrainian or Russian
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with databases and software tools used in forensic analysis and case management
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
