Field Coordination Specialist

At the World Health Organization, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Field Coordination Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring that our health cluster is prepared to respond to emergencies and outbreaks around the world.

The Field Coordination Specialist will be responsible for managing the WHO's humanitarian response in emergency contexts, working closely with partners and project staff to identify needs and develop effective strategies for response. This will involve coordinating technical and operational inputs, including resource mobilization, to fulfill WHO's critical functions as outlined in the Emergency Response Framework (ERF) 2.0.

• Manage the WHO's humanitarian response in emergency contexts, under the guidance of the WHE Team Lead.
• Coordinate and guide technical and operational inputs, including resource mobilization, to fulfill WHO's critical functions as per ERF 2.0.
• Systematically identify and monitor health risks and needs, and plan and implement effective preparedness, prevention, control, and response strategies and measures.
• Built national capacity through need identification, development, operationalization, and implementation of required training plans.
• Guide the WHO's field support team on continued self-assessment and learning on planning, budgeting, and operational service delivery.
• Determine staffing needs for WHO response in the area of responsibility and ensure their timely mobilization in liaison with the WHO country office.
• Provide substantial inputs to the development of the WHO PHSA, situation reports, Response and Preparedness/Readiness plans and lead their implementation in the area of responsibility.
• Brief the WHO country office on situation reports and events, bringing concerns and recommended courses-of-action to the attention of the WHE Team Lead.
• Participate in inter-agency and inter-cluster discussions and ensure that health remains a priority in his/her area of responsibility and health outcomes are also addressed by relevant sectors.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in public health management and operations, with significant experience in emergency management/response and leadership at the international level. You will also need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

In addition, you will need to possess the following qualifications:

• An advanced university degree in public health or a related field from an accredited institute.
• A minimum of seven years of work experience relevant to the position, with some of it obtained in an international work environment.
• A minimum of two years of relevant experience in emergency management/response and leadership at the international level.
• Substantial experience in capacity building in a developing country.
• Experience in developing and promoting collaborative partnerships especially in emergency contexts.
