We are looking for a skilled VoIP/IVR Software Engineer with a strong background in Python (or ) to lead the migration of our telephony and backend systems to a modern Python-based stack. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, designing robust distributed systems, and driving step-by-step migrations with minimal downtime.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain SIP/RTP flows, registrations, call routing, DTMF handling, audio transcoding (ulaw/alaw/opus), and webhooks for IVR events;
  • Develop services with FastAPI/Starlette using asyncio, design Celery-based distributed workers and schedulers, integrate with MySQL/Postgres, and ensure robust test coverage (pytest) and type safety (pydantic);
  • Connect to existing SIP providers or help migrate to managed solutions like Twilio or SignalWire for faster adoption;
  • Handle schema migrations (Alembic), replay historical call events, and securely store voicemails/recordings;
  • Implement blue-green/canary deployments, SIP registration redundancy, health checks, and fault-tolerant workers;
  • Ensure TLS/SRTP, manage secrets (HashiCorp Vault), and build audit trails for compliance (HIPAA-like environment).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Around 5 years in backend development (Python or ) with MySQL or Postgres;
  • Hands-on with Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, or cloud telephony providers (Twilio, Plivo, SignalWire);
  • Comfortable with Linux, networking, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools;
  • Able to read PHP code (nice-to-have);
  • Experience with gradual migrations (strangler pattern, dual-run, feature toggles);
  • Understanding of HIPAA-like requirements, secure audio data handling, and compliance best practices;
  • Upper-Intermediate English level.
