Job Summary This position is within the Information Technology department and will be responsible for all activities related to the administration, support and design of computerized databases. Confers with and advises on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods. Projects long-range requirements for data-based administration in conjunction with the Manager of Information Technology and DBA team. Controls the migration of database structures from Test to the Production environment, and manages Production environments. Provides database administration services to include segregation and security modifications. Has full technical knowledge of all phases of the systems analysis activity, and applies advanced knowledge of database management including design, configurations, sizing, importing and exporting. The Database Administrator applies considerable knowledge of the operating system and the on-prem or virtual platform on which the database is housed. The Database Administrator must have a complete understanding of the SQL installation and its interaction with the operating system.

This position is available for remote work at a home office. Candidate needs to reside in OR or WA. No exceptions.

The successful candidate will be hired at the IT Professional IV level, step placement depending on related qualifications.Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelor's degree or certifications in computer science or a related field, and at least four (4) years of experience in the field of database administration. Project coordination, COTS application support, quality assurance, and leadership experience are desired. The degree must have been conferred by an institution of higher education and have National Recognition of Accrediting Agencies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and official transcripts will be required at the time of hire. Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.

All combinations of education, experience, and training that demonstrate the ability to perform the work will be considered.

The ideal team member will have experience with several of the following:

  • Relational database design, and SQL Server administration experience required.
  • Establish and modify databases and master files, apply system configuration standards; coordinating with systems, operations and technical support teams.
  • Ensure database quality, integrity and performance.
  • SSRS expertise desired.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure/AWS cloud based data migration and management desired.
  • Confer with primary database users to confirm modifications, adjustments needed and to solve problems.
  • Design, size and install tables within context of the database and the platform on which it operates.
  • Evaluate database and operating systems to determine appropriate modifications.
  • Develop support tools to aid in monitoring data growth and gauge needs to increase space.
  • Research database failures; develop and perform recovery strategies.
  • Develop and maintain structure documentation; propose and implement standards for data management.
  • Ability to tune the database and application through query optimization.
  • Experience programming in various languages such as Sequel, T-SQL, SSRS, C#, .Net, web services and PowerShell scripting desired.
  • Experience working in and supporting an Office365 environment including Teams, SharePoint and related Microsoft productivity tools;
  • Handling personal work in a scrum team and experience with Jira tools a plus
  • Basic Project Management, agile development, and ITIL background a plus
  • Professional Certifications are desired
  • Ability to be highly successful working independently in a home office with a virtual team, or in an office environment as the job duties require
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation and documentation skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work with technical and non-technical people

All Clark County employees must participate in a WASHINGTON STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM PLAN (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF).Employee contributions begin the first day of work. Current contribution rates vary by plan but could range from 5% to 15% of gross pay, depending on the plan choice.
