Job Description

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Back End Engineer to join our dynamic team as we shape the future of Embedded Services targeting our Payroll customers. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work at pace and have a strong technical background and problem-solving skills. We are currently seeking a Backend Software Engineer (.NET) to take responsibility for building, enhancing, and maintaining products or systems that support Sage's business plans and long-term objectives, using the identified architecture. You will leverage your experience in developing .NET API Domain Services to build flexible, scalable, and resilient products in a cross-functional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient back-end systems and APIs.
• Collaborate with product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
• Implement security and data protection measures.
• Troubleshoot and debug applications to ensure optimal performance.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Experience, Skills, and Requirements:

• Minimum 4+ years of experience in a backend developer role 
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of software development principles, practices, and procedures for complex assignments.
• Proficiency in .NET C#
• Knowledge of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, DocumentDB etc.)
• Familiarity with API tools such as Postman or similar (Bruno experience is a bonus).
• Understanding of behaviour-driven development (BDD) testing and test automation techniques.
• Experience with version control in Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Agile, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologies.
• Self-motivated and proactive, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Bonus points:

• Experience working with enterprise software, particularly in the fintech, payroll, or financial services sectors.
• Development with or of AI agentic flows
• Global experience
• Experience in building highly integrated solutions – DevX, API design, complex integration architecture

Works in the area of Software Engineering, which encompasses the development, maintenance and optimization of software solutions/applications.
1. Applies scientific methods to analyse and solve software engineering problems.
2. He/she is responsible for the development and application of software engineering practice and knowledge, in research, design, development and maintenance.
3. His/her work requires the exercise of original thought and judgement and the ability to supervise the technical and administrative work of other software engineers.
4. The software engineer builds skills and expertise of his/her software engineering discipline to reach standard software engineer skills expectations for the applicable role, as defined in Professional Communities.
