Thank you for your interest in working with us at The British International School, Ukraine (BISU). In this letter I want to tell you a little about working here and to give you the information you will need if you decide to apply for the job.

English Teacher at BISU

You would be joining our team of 50 international and Ukrainian teachers, working with our up to

200

students aged 3--18 in classes of around

10-15.

During term time (which roughly follows the English terms) you would spend around 26 hours teaching. The rest of your 40 hour week would be frees, available for your PPA work and meetings. Our teaching day runs from 8:15 to 16:30 and your timetable will include an hour for lunch.

Your teaching will cover the Cambridge Pathway for English for Primary and Secondary, and you will help students with diverse language backgrounds confidently master English and succeed at every stage of the Cambridge Pathway. 

We are also a creative school, and we aim to give you a high degree of autonomy in how you teach this content. This is both because we will learn from you and also because we are committed to creating inspiring, engaging, and high-quality lessons focussing on practical skills and design principles. 

Above all, we are dedicated to progressive teaching methods that promote experimentation, problem solving and critical evaluation of design. We would expect you to share our passions.

Our international curriculum is inquiry based and stems from the EYFS and Cambridge Pathway in Primary completed with IGCSE, A Level and IBDP in Secondary. You will have:

• Higher education in Pedagogy, Linguistics, TESOL or Applied Linguistics.
• English at C2 / near-native level (CPE/CAE, IELTS 8.0+ or equivalent).
• At least 2 years of EAL/ESL school experience with evidence of strong student outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills, teamwork and a strong feedback culture.
• Strong knowledge of the CEFR, differentiation strategies and safe, effective classroom management practices.

• A high level of self-management and autonomy
• Commitment to further professional development

Advantage:

• CELTA/DELTA, Trinity CertTESOL/DipTESOL, British Council Teaching for Success/TKT, Cambridge PDQ or other internationally recognised certifications.
• Experience within the Cambridge Pathway, including support for IGCSE ESL/First Language and co-planning with STEM/Humanities teachers.
• Experience using modern EdTech tools, particularly Microsoft tools.

Your responsibilities will include

• Teaching EAL lessons in small groups or individually, using push-in/pull-out approaches and co-planning with subject teachers.
• Carrying out baseline, ongoing and end-of-year assessments (CEFR, Cambridge English Benchmarks) and track student progress.
• Creating EAL learning plans and adapt materials for learners from A1 to C2.
• Helping students build the language skills they need for Cambridge classrooms and support IGCSE ESL where necessary.
• Keeping school records up to date and provide clear, data-informed progress summaries.
• Taking part in PD/INSET, workshops and internal mentoring
  .

• Applicants must hold a UK, US, or EU passport, or have a valid Schengen visa, in order to travel to Ukraine via a Schengen country.
